A Medical Lien Is Similar to a Mechanics Lien
Video Transcribed: What does it mean to have a medical lien filed after a car wreck? Hey everyone, Christopher Stevens here certified paralegal with the Wirth Law Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in personal injury in Oklahoma. Today we’re going to be discussing what a medical lien is and what does it mean if you have one filed against you.
Well, in short, a medical lien is similar to a mechanics lien. Now, mechanics liens most often are found if you have, say, someone who does a lot of HVAC work on a house, or maybe plumbing work on a house, and they are attaching the work that they’ve done in the form of a lien against that property.
Now, similarly, a medical lien is attached to your insurance claim, following a motor vehicle collision. A lot of the time, this has done in lieu of the medical provider charging you directly each time you go in, through like a co-pay and your medical payments instead.
What they will do is file a lien, attaching it to your insurance claim, and thus getting compensated down the line. Now, a lot of the time, you might receive these in the mail, or, depending on your county, you can even look them up online.
