I’m Tulsa Traffic Ticket Attorney, James Wirth, we’re talking about the Department of Public Safety’s traffic ticket conviction point system, put points on your license, and how that affects you. So anytime you’ve got a traffic ticket if it falls within 1 of the 63 that has a listed point value. When you get a conviction, the court clerk sends that to the Department of Public Safety.
They add that points to your license. Insurance companies request your driving history, they found out about those points. You get increased insurance costs. But additionally, worse things happen once you hit 10 points within a five-year period. When that happens, you get a suspension of your driver’s license.
And depending on if you’ve had prior suspensions, that could determine the duration of the suspension. So once you hit 10 points, they send notice of revocation or suspension of your driving privileges. They request that you mail your driver’s license back to the Department of Public Safety.
And then you are suspended from your driving privileges. For the first time, it’s one month. For a second time, it goes to three. The third time, it goes to six months. And for the fourth and subsequent time goes to 12 months.
So what happens once you’ve reached 10 points? You lose your license. If you’ve got questions in those circumstances, you’re probably going to want to talk to an attorney about your specifics. If you are facing a traffic violation in Oklahoma, you can go online to makelaweasy.com.
