Understanding Access to Criminal Records
Can you see someone else’s criminal record? Hi, my name is Carl Birkhead. I’m a Tulsa criminal attorney with Wirth Law Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’ve been practicing family and criminal law for almost eight years now, and I want to help you make the law easier to understand by discussing how to find someone’s criminal record.
This explanation I’m about to give only works in cases where their record has not been sealed and or expunged. So, if someone had entered a plea to a crime but they were on probation for a while and they completed their probation, odds are you might not be able to find that if it was a deferred sentence, because the case would have then been dismissed and expunged. You won’t be able to look it up, or at least not easily.
Accessing Public Criminal Records in Oklahoma
But outside of those situations, just about anyone in the state of Oklahoma can go to oscn.net. It stands for Oklahoma Supreme Court Network. If you go down to case search, it should take you to a page where you can type in someone’s last and first name, and it will search through every county in the state to show you what cases have been filed with that name attached to it.
Now, be careful. Not every result is going to be related to the person that you’re searching for. I mean, if you’re looking for John Smith in the state of Oklahoma, you’re gonna get case upon case upon case upon case upon case in every county. So be sure that you’re looking for middle names. Make sure that you’re checking dates of birth if those are available, to just confirm that you are finding the correct results.
Confirming the Correct Criminal Record
But yes, if you’re wanting to find someone’s criminal record in this state, you absolutely can. It’s all a matter of public record. It’s all available for you online. You just have to be able to go to OSCN and find it. If you have questions about this, give me a call. My name’s Carl Birkhead. I’m a Tulsa felony attorney with Wirth Law Office, and I wanna help you make law easy.
