Understanding the Basics of Bail and Bond
Hello. This is Tulsa misdemeanor attorney Brian Carter with the Wirth Law Office. In this video, I’m going to talk about what considerations go into calculating someone’s bond or bail in a criminal case. Bail is designated to or intended, I should say, to ensure that a defendant will appear in court.
That being said, bail is oftentimes set by the jurisdiction. But some other considerations that go into determining the amount of a defendant’s bail are obviously the severity of the crime, previous criminal history, whether that person is a flight risk or a risk to public safety, and the defendant’s ties to the community.
Factors Influencing Bail Decisions
If they have a good family life here and they’re in the community and they’re working, that also helps and that also ties into being a flight risk and the ability for a defendant to pay. In certain cases, there are procedures where you can go and ask for a bail reduction.
That’s something that you would need to consult a lawyer about. Again, this is Tulsa felony attorney Brian Carter with the Wirth Law Office. We can be reached at 918-932-2800 or wirthlawoffice.com.
