What traffic offenses are two points on your driver’s license for a conviction in Oklahoma? I’m Tulsa Traffic Ticket Attorney, James Wirth, we’re talking about the Department of Public Safety and driver’s license points that cause increased insurance costs and potentially the loss of your license if you get too many within a five-year period of time.
So, what are those infractions that a conviction is two points on your license? Well, they’re documented in the administrative code, not Oklahoma statutes, but the Department of Public Safety Administrative code. That’s under 595, and then the appendix has a list of all of those.
The list for two-point offenses is as follows, speeding 11 To 25 miles per hour over. If it’s less than 11, then it’s actually zero points. If it’s more than 25, it’s either three or four points, depending on how fast you’re going.
Speeding one to 10 over, if you have a commercial driver’s license, excessive speeding if you have a commercial driver’s license. Public transit driver operating a vehicle while texting, public transit driver operating a vehicle while using a handheld mobile telephone, texting while operating a commercial vehicle, using a handheld mobile device while operating a commercial vehicle, driving left of center, driving in the wrong direction, failure to stop at a stop sign or a red light.
Failure to yield right of way, following too closely, following emergency vehicle or driving to the disaster area, careless driving as opposed to reckless driving. Reckless driving is four points on your license. Careless driving is two points on your license. Contest racing, operator of any vehicle failing to stop at a railroad crossing when required, driving any vehicle through around or under crossing gates or barricade at a railroad crossing, operator of any vehicle failing to obey directions of law enforcement officer at a railroad crossing, operator of a commercial vehicle other than bus or hazmat, failing to slow and check for tracks clear of the train.
The operator of commercial vehicle or bus failing to slow and check for tracks clear of a train, failure to clear railroad crossing while driving a commercial vehicle, driving a commercial vehicle in a railroad crossing with insufficient undercarriage clearance, operating a vehicle in violation of driver’s license restrictions.
So, those are the two-point infractions, that give you two points on your license pursuant to the appendix of the Department of Public Safety. But if you’ve got questions about your specific circumstances, you’re going to want to talk to an attorney about that privately.
