Take a Photo of an Incident Report
Video Transcribed: When should you request a copy of the incident report following a premises liability incident such as a slip, trip, or fall? Hey everyone, Christopher Stevens here certified paralegal with the Wirth Law Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in personal injury in Oklahoma. Today we’re going to be talking about when you should request a copy of your incident report following a premises liability incident.
Now, a lot of the time, if you are the victim of a premises liability incident such as a slip, trip, or fall, or any incidents in which you’re hurt on the property of another person, especially a business, they might have you fill out an incident report.
A lot of the time, this will take down your basic information, what happened, a few more details. One very important thing you can do is ask for a copy of that report. Now, I’ve had a lot of clients who, if they asked for it right then and there, the manager on hand will give them a copy, no problem.
But I’ve had other clients who, they’ll try and go back the next day, maybe a week later, or somewhere down the line, and then suddenly the document might not even exist anymore. Or they will tell them, “We don’t have a copy to give you.”
So a lot of the time, I’ve had clients who, if they just ask for it right there on the spot, or even something as simple as saying, “Hey, can I take a picture of this right quick so that way I have my own copy?” It will go a long way down the line and help save a lot of headaches trying to get a copy of that report.
