Here Are the Common Reasons for Divorce
Video Transcript: What are grounds for divorce in an Oklahoma divorce case? My name is Jason Sorensen. I’m a Tulsa lawyer at Wirth Law Office. And today we’re going to be talking about grounds for divorce in an Oklahoma divorce case.
There’s multiple different grounds for divorce that a person can state when they’re filing for a divorce but they need to state why they want to end the marriage, why the marriage isn’t working out. The most common reason being is that there’s incompatibility between the two parties now. So the two parties no longer get along, they no longer love each other, they’re incompatible at this point.
The marriage isn’t working any longer so it needs to end. That’s the most common reason. But there’s other reasons as well, such as gross neglect of duty, extreme physical or mental cruelty, so types of abuse, abandonment for a period of a year or more, so one of the spouses has left the other party and isn’t really showing signs of returning, and then the last big one being adultery, so somebody has been unfaithful and cheated on the other spouse.
Those are all grounds for divorce so those are things that you can state on your divorce papers as to why the divorce needs to happen, why the marriage needs to end. But this is just basic information.
